~ MORE ABOUT US ~ FAMILY ~ CRAFTING ~

I am crazy about crafting. But....... There was a time when I felt useless and so “untalented”. I now believe that EVERYONE is talented, crafty and gifted. You just have to dig deep, sometimes very deep, and you will find your talent.

My brother, ALAN is an incredible artist. He has carved the most amazing scenes on acorns, yes acorns - so small a “canvass”. I envied him for his ingenious talent and always thought he was so clever. He has always been able to think out of the box and is now renovating, building and expanding his property, slowly but surely. He does amazing LEATHER work, and also makes bugs, etc out of scrap metal and parts. He does the QUIRKIEST birds, hand painted and carved from balsa wood and leather.

My sister in law CHANDRE, paints beautifully - I have seen the most awesome paintings that she has done - from nudes to abstract. Chandre is sought after.

My sister LEANN, is also very talented and grabs every opportunity to create. She started with stamping on greeting cards.    She managed a craft shop in little old East London, which hosted my dad’s pottery and so much more. LEANN always found new things to craft. She and her family emmigrated to NEW ZEALAND in 2001, where she has started her very own craft shop (STAMPS PLUS) with items that I could only DREAM about. I miss her so much and have not had the opportunity to visit her since she emmigrated.

I started to make a few cards - they were a disaster, quite hideous in fact. It took me what seemed forever, to create something pretty. I could not believe that people would buy one of my creations. It however did encourage me and spur me on to do better and to create works of excellence. Eventually my GREETING CARDS showcased in a few craft shops.

As time moved on, I began experimenting with various ideas - personalising LP record clocks - which made fabulous keepsake items. I have found that people love to create, but often have no idea where to start. It’s great fun in a group, giving the opportunity to meet new people, wind down - FORGETTING YOUR WORRIES for a moment. There’s something to be said for spending time with people.

I love crafting with RECYCLABLES and eventually started children’s workshops at my church. I believe that this was God inspired. Used everything from old cd’s, expired beans, popcorn, sago, etc to create pictures and cards for mothers day. It was such fun and the DELIGHT and ENJOYMENT that the children experienced was priceless. Amazing what you can do with plastic bottles. HANGAR 18 has a project with 2 litre bottles which are stuffed to capacity with waste - plastic, foil, cling wrap, and other non biodegradable plastic and waste. These in turn are used to make “BRICKS” to build houses, etc - you can google ECO BRICKS. Can you BELIEVE it. The ideas are endless.

It is so rewarding to take something ugly, useless and sometimes dangerous and create something practical, beautiful and fun. Again, I believe it’s all about connecting with people in the process. I love doing workshops for both adults and children alike: - pod angels, pod people, bracelets, sun catchers for children and more. I also do workshops for childrens’ parties - about 45 minutes.

What started with DRINKING COFFEE, Turned into so much more. All these pretty colored capsules, seemed such a waste to throw them away :-( My brain got busy and google became my best friend. I was overwhelmed by the amount of CRAFTS on the web. Slowly I began experimenting with a few ideas - making them my own. I made the most adorable little ANGELS and “launched” them at the EDGEMEAD CHRISTMAS MARKET in December 2017. The response was amazing. Seeing these angels fly away, making themselves at home with new owners was WONDERFUL.

The more involved I got, the more I realised that these pods were filling up the landfills, causing huge problemes in the environment. Sad thing is, is that they are not biodegradable. So my little bit “Saving the planet one pod at a time” became my slogan.

For now, pod craft is my latest project - loving what comes from COFFEE.

SAVING THE PLANET ONE POD AT A TIME.
